Chinese Surnames
Chinese surnames are the first half of the full-name decision. Choosing one casually can change the tone, rhythm and cultural impression of the whole name.
Family name comes first
In standard Chinese order, the surname precedes the given name. In 王安然, 王 (Wáng) is the surname and 安然 (Ānrán) is the given name.

Should a foreigner pick a Chinese surname?
Many learners and long-term users adopt a common surname as part of a Chinese-style name. Others use a transliterated surname or keep the foreign name separately. The best option depends on continuity, social context and how the person wants the name to function.
Need a full Chinese name?
Do not choose the surname in isolation. We can build the surname and given name as one system around your intended use.
